Discovering God’s Vision for Your Life

To each is given the manifestation of the spirit for the common good. – 1 Corinthians 12:7

Have you ever . . .

  • Wondered what God’s will is for your life?
  • Been unsure about what you would most excel at or enjoy?
  • Sought greater personal and spiritual growth?

Then you are just the person we’re looking for to take part in a new study opportunity, DISCOVERING GOD’S VISION FOR YOUR LIFE: YOU AND YOUR SPIRITUAL GIFTS . . .

At Christ Church United Methodist we are committed to helping you grow spiritually. One way we do this is by helping you discover your spiritual gifts.

The Holy Spirit has given each of us unique gifts to carry out God’s work in the world. All Christians have spiritual gifts just waiting to be discovered, developed, and used to build up the body of Christ.

The Apostle Paul wrote:

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. . . . there are varieties of gifts . . . activated by one and the same spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses. – 1 Corinthians 12:1, 3, 11

Many of us have never unwrapped or discovered our spiritual gifts.

Spiritual gifts are:

Gifts from God, not rewards for good behavior.
They are gifts given when we come to faith in Christ. Those who aren’t Christians don’t have ‘spiritual’ gifts.

Manifestations of grace, not marks of maturity.
They are not dependent on how long you’ve been a Christian or how mature you are as a Christian.

Tools for the job, not trophies for the mantelpiece.
They are received for the common good to be used in humble service to God and his people.

Spiritual gifts, not simply natural talents.
They are the expression of God’s grace in ordinary people’s lives, sometimes transforming a natural talent into something supernatural, sometimes supernaturally giving an individual a gift that they have shown no ability for before.

How do we discover our gifts?

Spiritual gift inventories are available from many sources. Or you can just get active and serve and see where God is blessing your service. Or you might consider what others say about your strengths. Or you might just pray for God to reveal your spiritual gifts to you.

Christ Church is offering a new course, Discovering God’s Vision for Your Life: You and Your Spiritual Gifts, to help people understand and identify their spiritual gifts. Participants will:

  • learn what spiritual gifts are and where they come from;
  • find out what the Bible says about the different spiritual gifts;
  • explore what your own spiritual gifts are;
  • discuss how you can apply spiritual gifts in your life; and
  • understand better what God has planned for you.
